Health technology clinical experts

Clinical experts provide the committee with information on current practices and the setting in which care is provided.

Background

Beginning in November 2016, appointed, nonvoting clinical experts may be asked to join the clinical committee in review of a specific technology. Clinical experts provide committee members with an important perspective regarding the technologies, procedures, or tests being reviewed. Qualified clinicians are encouraged to apply to serve as the clinical expert for the topics listed below.

The clinical expert role

During meetings, clinical experts support the work of the committee by responding to technical questions posed by the chair or other committee members. An expert does not act as an advocate or opponent for the subject under review, nor is the expert asked to express an opinion on the evidence. Clinical experts are compensated for time spent at the meeting (generally four hours).
