Plan overview

You do all you can to build the best life for your loved ones. It’s why you work hard, save what you can and try your best to plan for the future. You can get affordable life insurance coverage to protect those you care about most and the life you’re building for them today.

Basic life and AD&D insurance

The SEBB Program's full employee benefits package includes basic life and basic AD&D insurance.

Basic life insurance covers you and pays your designated beneficiaries in the event of your death. Basic AD&D insurance provides extra benefits for certain injuries or death resulting from a covered accident.

You will be automatically enrolled in these benefits, even if you waive medical coverage. You do not need to provide evidence of insurability (proof of good health).

These benefits provide:

  • $35,000 for basic life insurance.
    $5,000 for basic AD&D insurance.
Supplemental life and AD&D insurance

You may enroll in supplemental life insurance and supplemental AD&D insurance for yourself and your dependents.

Supplemental life insurance

  • Employee: Up to $500,000 guaranteed issue in $10,000 increments, up to a maximum of $1,000,000 with evidence of insurability.
  • Spouse or state-registered domestic partner: Up to $100,000 guaranteed issue in $5,000 increments up to a maximum of $500,000. Evidence of insurability required above $100,000. Coverage cannot exceed 50% of employees supplemental life insurance.
  • Children (Age 14 days up to 26 years): Increments of $5,000 up to $20,000 with no evidence of insurability.

Guaranteed issue is the amount of coverage an employee may select when initially eligible for coverage, within the required enrollment deadlines below, without submitting evidence of insurability to MetLife.

Supplemental AD&D insurance

Supplemental AD&D insurance never requires evidence of insurability, and you can apply at any time. Supplemental AD&D insurance does not cover death and dismemberment from nonaccidental causes.

  • Spouse or state-registered domestic partner: Increments of $10,000 up to $250,000
