Indian health care providers (IHCPs)
IHCPs participate in the state’s Medicaid Transformation Project (MTP), specifically through Initiative 1 and implementation of culturally relevant projects. Through this initiative, IHCPs are updating and evolving the way people receive care from Washington’s 29 federally recognized tribes and two Urban Indian Health Programs.
IHCP-specific projects benefit and improve the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
What are IHCPs working on?
As part of the government-to-government relationship with Indian nations, the Health Care Authority (HCA), IHCPs, and the American Indian Health Commission (AIHC) of Washington State established the IHCP-specific projects. Some of this work includes:
- Implementation of an alternative payment model for a tribal federally qualified health center (FQHC).
- Establishment of the Community Health Aide Program (CHAP) in the lower 48 of the United States.
- Updates to/replacement of the Indian Health Service (IHS) legacy electronic health records system, called Resource and Patient Management System.
